A FAMILY BUSINESS
with a long history and connection with the Tenterfield community

Five generations of the Cooper family have been caring for families in the Tenterfield community and surrounding districts for over 100 years.
Current owners of the business are Brett, Tracy and Angela Cooper and they are the fifth generation to lead JP Cooper & Son.  They commenced the leadership of the business after the passing of their father Garry Cooper in May 2018. Due to the history and the legacy created by the four generations of Coopers before them , we feel a sense of history and pride to continue the family legacy and offer the people of Tenterfield a service in their time of need.

Our great great grandfather, Henry Cooper commenced the business in 1913. Henry operated a successful building business in Tentrfield and in addition commenced the funeral business. Henry introduced his son John Payne Cooper (JP) to the businesses, and they operated together as Henry Cooper & Son for a number of years.

On the passing of Henry and during the challenging times of the Depression and the Second World War, JP consolidated the businesses and continued to serve the people of Tenterfield through both the building and funeral businesses.

In their early years, JP’s sons Harry and Mick helped out in the business, but it was Mick who took the step of working full-time for his father. JP and Mick worked side by side for forty years, where they formed the partnership JP Cooper & Son. When JP passed away in 1972, JP Cooper & Son then came under the direction of Mick.

In 2004, at the age of eighty-five, Mick retired and his son Garry commenced as the Director of JP Cooper & Son.

Through their hard work and commitment, the Cooper family have noewbeen serving Tenterfield district and border region of northern NSW for over 100 years. In all generations, the wives and many other Cooper family members have also assisted and contributed to the business.

The Cooper family have also been fortunate to have many local people work with them in the business, and the support from these staff has also contributed to the longevity of JP Cooper & Son.

This history, knowledge and experience in the funeral industry, along with a sense of community service and pride are the contributing factors to the longevity of the business.

Our family values of compassion, trust and respect guide all that we do and is captured in our motto:

‘Our Family Caring For Your Family’
